Art Show

Abstract Glam

Abstract 1 was the first piece that started this whole collection. I wanted to make pieces that felt free some all the constrains of rules and well worked out patterns. I let myself loose to do what felt right. The use of glass, metal, plastic beads, tulle, sequins and other upcycled material to brings life to each piece. Each piece has it’s own voice. I let the materials speak to me and let them tell me where it wanted to go and how it wanted to placed on the canvas.

Reconstruction of the Sea Witch Collection

One day I was looking at the rack of garments from my previous collections and two pieces look so sad just hanging on the hangers. A skirt and a bolero made from upcycled sheets of Styrofoam that I collected while I worked as a visual merchandiser for Target. While working there I had to unpack and display home goods. The styrofoam was just more waste being added to our landfills. I thought I would try to make something out of them. The sheets reminded me of sea foam that washes up on the shore. Which gave me the inspiration to make the Sea Witch collections for the “Fashion is Art” show. These pieces look great in pictures and on the runway but looked to sad just living on hangers. I decided that I would deconstruct the pieces and remold them into new pieces of art. This time the art that can be admired on a wall in someone’s home, office or some gorgeous hotel lobby.

Mystical

Being a Witch I knew I had to do some Mystical pieces. I also wanted to try my hand at working on some illustrative pieces. Using more of the outline of the mystical drawings and letting the hand dyed canvas show through. I love the look of the simplicity of the stitches with the complex layer of the dye on the fabric. These piece also use glass, plastic and metals beads. Some of the materials where taken from trifted or yard sale jewelry or were given to me from by my mom that were taken from her craft stash.

Rainbow Collection

Being a Bi Sexual/Queer Latin Womxn, I wanted to show my love of my community and the whole world. I also wanted to go back to the art basics. You know learning about the rainbows. As a child growing up I always loved art and carfty things. Learning how to sew at the age of 12 and then heading off to an art collage were even there you learn about ROYGBIV. I wanted to bring all the colors to life. Well, as much as this witchy goth can. These smaller pieces were fun to make but very challenging because they are stitched onto black velveteen. Each pieces of the rainbow is gussied up with loads of beads and some with black tulle. At the end of this rainbow you’ll see a heart that has all the colors coming together in Love. Love is Love.
